Sponsor a Slate Campaign.

What is the Campaign about….

Sponsor a slate on the old Thornley School roof.

The Thornley Community Space group are working towards renovating the Old Thornley School to create a social meeting place. The existing Roof on the School is in a poor condition. There has been theft of lead and subsequent damage to the roof. This has resulted in the school being open to the weather and elements.

For £10 a slate, sponsors have their names, or that of someone whom they wish to remember bound into a record book of sponsors which will be kept as a legacy in the school.

On Sponsoring a slate you will be given for your own record  the number of the slate you have sponsored. Alongside a small print of the Thornley School and a piece of original Westmorland slate dating back to 1880.

We are aiming to raise the roof……..

Meeting with Parish Council …. 18th March

Positive progress was made tonight at the meeting regarding working towards the peppercorn lease arrangement. Our next aim is to complete a feasibility study and building survey / costing of renovating the Thornley School.  Security fences have been erected today to prevent further theft or damage to our building.  We thank everyone for their support  and there is certainly a wealth of skills and expertise in Thornley on offer  for this project. A legacy / history is in the making…..  We aim to involve everyone who is willing to offer their support .  We will not turn down any offer whether big or small. We need you…

A big thank you.

THE HOT POT SUPPER WAS A SELL OUT…

The Hot Pot supper proved to be a sell out of 130 tickets. It was a brilliant night snug and warm at the Derby Arms.  It was our first fundraising event and we want to thank all those who contributed, attended, gave prizes etc and helped to make the night a great success!! The place was packed until late with a great atmosphere and much laughter and chat. All together we raised a fantastic £1800 which is an amazing result for our 1st event and sets us on our way to many more.

The Sponsor a Slate Campaign was launched and created huge interest – see our website for further details ( coming soon).

We are arranging further events , So  thanks again and watch this space for further news………

Survey for support

Update…. 5th March 2013.

We have now received a response from Parish Council and confirmation that our support survey was successful. We are now moving forward to complete a feasibility study and looking how the Community Hub will be run and used. We are exploring possible grants and funding alongside the fun raising events. Too date good progress has been made re arranging a structural / building survey of the Thornley School and what seems a positive contact with a local person re possible funding / grants etc.

We will keep you all informed… watch this space… and soon (be warned) a questionnaire will be heading your way…

28th February 2013 - The survey for support requested by the Parish Council  has now been submitted. We would like to thank everyone for their contribution and support. The outcome was very positive and the data will provide valuable information for future feasibility studies. But more importantly the spirit of Thornley was felt and welcomed as a good sign……
